The San Diego Brewers Guild has been a driving force for the craft beer industry since it was first established on June 10th, 1997. After 24 years in operation, the San Diego Brewers Guild serves as an invaluable source for brewers and the community. With over 150 breweries and brewpubs in SD County, this is one of America's largest brewing regions - lovingly known as the "Capital of Craft."
The History of the San Diego Brewers Guild
The SDBG was founded by members of the local brewing community who believed there was strength in numbers and wanted to work together to promote their beers locally and nationally. Many notable craft beer veterans were present for the first SDBG meeting. Members of the first meeting included:
While not all present members continue to operate to this day, their guidance and goal of promoting local beer have given San Diego national and international recognition and fame. In that time, the San Diego Brewers Guild has grown from the original 11 members to now over 280 active members.
To commemorate such a momentous occasion, the San Diego Brewers Guild has partnered with BSG CraftBrewing to release an exclusive 24-anniversary hop blend. This proprietary hop blend is officially named “SD Beer Blend” and was made available to commercial brewers to release their own unique blends. A portion of the proceeds went back towards helping SDBG continue operations and develop new member programs.
The “SD Beer Blend” is designed as a late kettle or dry hop for classic West Coast-inspired IPA’s. It showcases tropical fruit, citrus, and pine notes, and its strong tropical fruit expression makes it well-suited to hazy or juicy IPA’s. The San Diego Brewers Guild is proud to call San Diego the Capital of Craft and is excited for the community to try a different "SD Beer Blend" at participating breweries. A welcome addition to the summer beer of your choice!
