These 8 must-try breweries span from Oceanside to Imperial Beach, each bringing in their own unique flavor. With so many options along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), also known as the “101”, it'll be hard not finding a brewery that suits both your taste buds and your thirst. Breakwater Brewing Co. (Oceanside)Located in downtown Oceanside right off the 101, Breakwater Brewing features 12-18 house beers on tap and 25+ guest beers. You'll find both indoor and outdoor seating, a kid-friendly environment, and a full menu that includes pizza, salads, wings, sandwiches, and more. Wanna bring your dog? No problem! Pups are welcome on Breakwater's dog-friendly patio. Pure Project (Carlsbad)Pure Project, located in the heart of Carlsbad Village, offers indoor seating with 5 roll-up doors to let the breeze in, as well as an open-air, dog-friendly patio with lounge chairs and tropical plants - including a gorgeous Hong Kong Orchid tree. Feeling hungry? Pure Project partners with local food vendors and food trucks - check their Instagram to stay up to date. Pizza Port (Solana Beach)Pizza Port has been around since 1987 and began brewing beer in 1992. They've won over 100 medals from the Great American Beer Festival (more than any other craft brewery in history!) and 5 World Beer Cup gold medals. Pizza Port is located just off the 101 in downtown Solana Beach and offers both indoor and outdoor seating, a kid-friendly environment, and a dog-friendly patio. Feeling hungry? You'll find pizza, salad, wings, and more and Pizza Port is known for its Beer Buddies, bite-sized pizza crust brushed with garlic or cajun spice. Viewpoint Brewing Co. (Del Mar)Located on the edge of the San Dieguito Lagoon, Viewpoint Brewing offers scenic views overlooking the lagoon and surrounding landscape. Viewpoint Brewing offers outdoor patio seating and indoor seating with large roll-up doors to allow for fresh air and breezes off the lagoon. Viewpoint Brewing offers a full menu, including burgers, fish tacos, sandwiches, and other shareable plates like baked brie and charred broccoli. Viewpoint Brewing is dog friendly, offering locally-made, hand-sourced dog treats from Boozy Bones. Beers to Try: It's Merica Time, Viewpoint Brewing's American-style lager, won a bronze medal in the San Diego International Beer Competition. Amplified Ale Works (Pacific Beach)Amplified Ale Works is a music-themed gastropub offering ocean views, indoor and outdoor spaces for enjoying the beer, and a dog-friendly grass patio and family-friendly environment. Amplified Ale Works has won several awards for their beer and offers guests a full menu of Mediterranean food, including doner kebabs, skewers, doner fries, salads, and of course, they have burgers on the menu. Beers to Try: The Electrocution IPA is Amplified Ale Work's signature beer, but you'll also want to try their Whammy Bar Wheat, which won the 2016 World Beer Cup gold medal. Eppig Brewing Waterfront Biergarten (Point Loma)Eppig Brewing is known for their waterfront Biergarten in Point Loma, with patio seating and a dog/kid-friendly environment. They have additional locations in Vista and North Park. In 2021, Eppig won best brewery in the northern region in the San Diego Beer News Awards and has won several other awards for individual beers from the Great American Beer Festival and the San Diego International Beer Competition. Beers to try: Try the 10:45 to Denver IPA, which won the gold medal in the 2020 European Beer Star. OB Brewery (Ocean Beach)Nominated in 2021 as one of the best brewpubs in the nation by USA Today, OB Brewery offers gorgeous views of Ocean Beach from its rooftop deck on the 3-story, rustic-style tasting room and building. While the first floor is all business (taproom, kitchen, and brew room), the second story allows for casual tasting, games of shuffleboard and foosball, and has a balcony for enjoying ocean views. The restaurant serves favorites like carnitas, fish tacos, street tacos, wings, and burgers. The brewery is friendly to both dogs and kids. Beers to try: Try OB Brewery's award-winning beers, including the Right On pale ale, the Gold medal winner of the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in 2019. Coronado Brewing Co. (Imperial Beach)Founded in 1996, Coronado Brewing is known for its great beer and laid-back atmosphere. You'll find a full menu including flatbreads, salads, fish tacos, burgers & "sandos," including a serrano bacon burger and a pulled pork sandwich, as well as "pub favorites" including brewpub pretzels, fish & chips, and coconut calamari. Beers to try: Coronado Brewing is probably best known for its Weekend Vibes IPA, winner of the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Bronze medal in 2019 (ranking against over 300 competing IPAs) and its Orange Avenue Wit, a San Diego take on a Belgian wit-style beer.
